1960s W.German Fat Lava Scheurich Pottery Floor Vase

An extra large and striking fat lava floor vase dating from the 1960s/70s. Manufactured in West Germany by Scheurich. Model number inscribed on the base: 546-52 W. Germany.

A multi-coloured fat lava matt and gloss glazed floor vase in bright orange glaze overlaid with a large brown molten zigzag pattern with a smaller zigzag pattern border at the top and bottom.  Alternating brown and white rough textured matt circles sit on the top of the bottom which frame the orange glaze beautifully do all the way to the base and up around the neck.  On the last white hoop on the neck some of the brown colour is visible.  It doesn't appear to be a scratch but may have occurred during the manufacturing process.  I have highlighted this in the images.  There are some barely noticeable imperfections to the glaze/ceramic which is typical of fat lava pieces as they are handmade.

History: 1954-Present - In 1927 Alois Scheurich jointly established a company named “Scheurich and Greulich” (S&G).  The success of S&G allowed Alois Scheurich to establish his own ceramics factory in Kleinheubach in 1954.  The Scheurich company became one of the largest manufacturers of ceramics in Germany from the 1950s to the 1980s. They exported more than any other ceramic company in Germany.
