An impressive large egg-shaped aquarium Chinese paperweight made in the Murano style. This beautiful and unique paperweight made in the "sommerso" technique style depicts an aquarium with two separate shoals of five fish with rising air bubbles and seaweed floating upwards. The cobalt blue seabed is covered in sparkling silver and green glass surrounded by pieces of circular glass depicting coral. The fine detail and colour make the piece quite mesmerising especially with the light shining through it. The sculpture is in good condition with no chips or scratches to its polished body. The base is quite scratched but they're not visible when the paperweight is stood upright and in place.
Even though there's a foil label stating "Murano ARTWARE" I don't think it is based on my research. I have therefore priced it accordingly.
Perfect to display on a glass shelving unit, coffee table or on a desk as a paperweight.

Layers of Glass: Authentic Murano creations often consist of multiple layers of hand-blown glass. Mass-produced imitations are typically made with a single, thick layer of glass.Pontil Mark: Hand-blown glass often has a pontil mark on the base, which is an indentation left when the glass blower breaks off the rod used to shape the glass. Authentic Murano pieces usually have a polished or ground pontil, while Chinese imports may have a rough, unpolished one. However, some authentic Murano pieces, especially older ones, may also have rough pontils.Colours: Murano glass is known for its vibrant, rich colors and techniques like sommerso (submerged glass) and millefiori (floral patterns). Imitations may have a flatter, duller appearance.
