Pair of 1970s German Ceramic Fat Lava Orange & Brown Wall Lights

A pair of vintage 1970s West German wall lights which stand as an iconic testament to Space Age design from that era. Manufactured by the renowned Goebel company under their specialised "Pan Leuchten" lighting brand.  These glazed ceramic fixtures are highly sought after by collectors of authentic Fat Lava era art pottery.

Each square sconce features a dramatic, three-dimensional moulded swirl design inspired by prehistoric fossils and cosmic vortexes. The brilliant aesthetic is achieved through a multi-layered glazing process, showcasing an intensely vibrant, high-gloss orange interior that seamlessly transitions into a thick, heavily textured dark volcanic chocolate-brown frame. Because of this handcrafted glazing technique, no two pieces are exactly identical, making every pair uniquely distinct.

Designed with functional versatility in mind, the modular design allows them to be mounted with any of the four sides facing upward, enabling you to customise the direction of the swirling pattern to suit your preference. The central sockets accommodate standard E27 or E26 screw-in bulbs up to 60 watts, and they perform beautifully when paired with silver-capped or chrome-topped mirror bulbs. This specific configuration bounces illumination backward against the glossy, deep orange contours, casting a dramatic ambient glow that completely eliminates direct bulb glare. Perfect for adding a rich pop of retro character to dark corridors, bedrooms, or accent walls, these rare fixtures can be directly hardwired into a wall or modified with an external cord and switch.

As stated, the colour of the sconces do not match exactly which is part of their charm.  Also the lightbulb holders which are hidden behind are not identical because I had to get one specially made as one sconce was missing it.  Please refer to the images for these differences.
