This stunning and colourful rug is a 1960s abstract shag or long pile rug also known as a rya rug designed by the influential post-war British textile designer Robert Dodd for the UK company Quayle and Tranter.

I sold a similar version which still possessed its original label which is how I identified this one as being by Quayle Carpets Limited, Kidderminster, with the specific design often known as "Turku".  Unfortunately this rug lost the manufacturer's label at some point in time.

The rug features a vibrant abstract design with a bright central sunflower motif in various shades of brown, red, and orange, a perfect size and colour to brighten up any room. Constructed from a durable blend of 80% wool and 20% nylon, this specific piece is in very good used condition and has been professionally cleaned.

Robert Dodd was a notable figure in British textile design, having worked for other prestigious names like Edinburgh Weavers and Heal's in the early 1960s.
