This stunning cylindrical vase is a fine example of Mid-Century Modern design from the renowned German glass manufacturer, Peill & Putzler. The vase, dating from the 1970s, features a unique and tactile three-dimensional "feather" design, which showcases the company's commitment to artistry and innovation in glassmaking. The matt white glass is encased in clear glass, adding depth and a sculptural quality to the piece.
Peill & Putzler was a prominent glassworks and lighting company formed in 1947 by the merger of two long-standing German glass manufacturers, Putzler (established in 1869) and Peill & Son (established in 1903). The company was a founding member of the German Design Council in 1953 and collaborated with many influential designers, including Wilhelm Wagenfeld and Horst Tüselmann, creating pieces that were both functional and artistic. Peill & Putzler's historical works are displayed in eminent museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Corning Museum of Glass in New York.
This particular vase is a perfect statement piece for a sideboard or console table, but its tall form also makes it suitable for use as a floor vase with long-stemmed or dried flowers. It is in excellent vintage condition and retains its small original manufacturer's label. The factory closed in 1997, making original vintage pieces like this highly sought after by collectors.
