Pair of 1950s English silver-plate animal stirrup cups in the shape of a ram's and bull's head.  The cups balance perfectly when upturned on their noses and horns.  The heads are incredibly detailed and sculpted.  There is some tarnishing to the silver-plate commensurate with their age.  The cup of the bull is slightly indented and not perfectly round.

Stirrup cups are traditional drinking vessels which were popular in the late 18th and 19th centuries, which were used by hunting parties to quaff spiced wine, port or sherry before, during and after the hunts . The name derives from the practice of drinking whilst mounted, with the their feet in the stirrups.

Fun pieces that don't have to be used for this purpose but to drink liquors or shots during a dinner party.

Dimensions: The bull is slightly taller than the ram because of the position of its nose.

Ram: Height: 8.5cm Diameter: 4cm

Bull: Height: 9cm Diameter: 4cm
