An antique English late-19th century rectangular wall-mirror framed in a rich, dark hardwood walnut, distinguished by its deep, reddish-brown tones and a finely-grained texture. The wood has a natural patina that has deepened over time, highlighting the grain patterns and adding to its vintage appeal.

The frame is not a single piece of wood but is composed of four-sections, with a subtle double-line inlay along the inner and outer edges. This fine inlaid banding is created from a contrasting lighter wood, possibly satinwood or boxwood, which provides a delicate and elegant accent against the darker main wood. This type of inlay, often referred to as marquetry, showcases the intricate craftsmanship of the piece. This design is characteristic of late 19th-century styles, when walnut was a popular choice for mirror frames due to its durability and beautiful finish.

The mirror's glass is original to the piece, as evidenced by the presence of "foxing," which are the small, cloudy spots that are a natural result of the silvering on the back of the glass oxidizing over many years. This aging process gives the glass a soft, diffused reflection, which is a key indicator of its authenticity and historical significance.
Please refer to the images which illustrate the mirror's condition with some chips to the veneer and gapping between the corner-joints which is reflected in the price.
Despite its condition the mirror is very well-made and is authentic for the period.  Perfect for a mantelpiece or above a console table in a hallway perhaps in a country or Victorian home.
