1950s freestanding whimsical powder-coated iron coat stand by French designer Roger Feraud. The "Clé de Sol" or "Treble Clef" is an original design made from iron with eight coloured wooden molecular spheres painted in pairs of blue, yellow, green and red with four "treble clef" shaped coat hooks at the top.
A design classic perfect for hanging coats or hats and storing umbrellas in the base. Very solid, sturdy, well-made designed for functionality. A perfect addition to a large hallway in a residential or office environment. It will always draw attention and conversation because it's so unusual.
In very good vintage condition with some marks to the coloured balls which could be re-painted if you require but this is down to your own requirements.
Roger Feraud (1890–1964) was a notable French furniture and object designer, celebrated especially for his imaginative midcentury coat racks with their atomic style designs. Crafted in the fifties and sixties they feature sleek lacquered metal frames topped with colourful wooden balls, echoing the decorative exuberance of the Atomic Age and Space Age design movements .
