An unusual and rare to source in this colour-way an exceptional pair of vintage Peill & Putzler table lamps from their "Zebra" range.  A highly sought-after design from the 1970s. These striking lamps feature an organic, shell-shaped design crafted from a single piece of high-quality, mouth-blown opaline glass. The iconic zebra-striped pattern provides a playful yet sophisticated design, making these lamps a true statement piece of Mid-Century Modern German design. The glass has a subtle gold or warm grey tint, which, when illuminated, casts a soft, magical, and inviting glow, enhancing any living room or bedroom decor.

Manufactured in Germany by the renowned glassworks company Peill & Putzler, these lamps are celebrated for their innovative artistry and quality craftsmanship. The smooth surface of the glass contrasts beautifully with the sharp, graphic pattern, showcasing the edgy quality of their design. Each lamp is in very good vintage condition, fully functional, and both retain their original transparent manufacturer's label.

Each lamp requires a single Edison E14 screw in lightbulb which is fitted at an angle to help illuminate the lamp evenly throughout.  An on/off switch is fitted along the flex.

This pair offers a unique opportunity to own a set of iconic lighting that perfectly encapsulates the Space Age aesthetic of the era. Ideal for a collector or anyone looking to add a touch of authentic vintage design and warm ambiance to their home.

Peill & Putzler was a German company known for its high-quality glassware and lighting, with a history dating back to the late 19th century.  The company was formed in 1947 through a merger of two older glassmakers: Peill und Sohn, founded in 1903, and Putzler, established in 1869.

Peill & Putzler's lighting is particularly noted for its elegant, functional, and often artistic designs. The company was a founding member of the German Design Council in 1953 and collaborated with prominent designers such as Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Horst Tüselmann, and Aloys Ferdinand Gangkofner. Their work often featured innovative, experimental approaches to glassmaking, allowing light to become an art form.

The company produced a wide variety of lighting, including table lamps, pendant lamps, wall lights, and chandeliers. Many of their designs, especially from the 1960s and 1970s, are recognized for their sculptural, globular forms and use of materials like frosted and clear glass, chrome, and silver foil. The company's production moved to other countries in 1995, and it filed for bankruptcy in 2004. Today, original Peill & Putzler pieces are considered vintage and are displayed in museums like the Museum of Modern Art in New York
