1960s British Greaves & Thomas Teak Sofa

1960s Greaves and Thomas Teak bentwood sofa.  The sofa is formed from steam bent solid Teak with curved sweeping armrests, a spindle back with turned, tapered, flared legs.  The seat and buttoned back cushion are upholstered in a flame orange and gold fabric.  The backrest can be removed and scatter cushions can be placed there instead which will expose the beautiful feature spindles.

Greaves & Thomas was a London based company which specialised in high-end contemporary furniture which included sideboards and armchairs.  During the 1950s/60s they hired designers to create contemporary well-designed furniture. Walter Cornell designed for the company during this period. His designs featured clean lines and a Danish influence. In 1967, Greaves & Thomas was taken over by low-cost furniture maker Schreiber.
