1970s Nylon and Perspex Ceiling Lamp by Paul Secon

1970s German space age nylon, perspex and chrome 'fishing line' pendant, hanging, ceiling light. Manufactured by Sompex and designed by French designer Paul Secon. The light is very cleverly constructed with connecting nylon line around a perspex frame.  A central opaline tube bulb holder allows the light to be diffused through the frame and nylon wire. The light is constructed from six perspex spokes which slot into a circular frame which the bulb sits inside.  One of the spokes is broken at the very end where it meets the frame which I've shown in the last few images.  It doesn't make a difference to the way the nylon lines flow and is only visible when looking at the light from below if you really look.  I only noticed it when I was cleaning the light yesterday which was hugely disappointing.  I didn't see it when I bought it.

The UFO shaped light glows and looks different from every angle.  Perfect for every room of the house especially as a feature light above a dining table to add that extra wow factor.  The light requires a single E27 screw-in bulb and hangs from a height adjustable chain.
