1980s Italian inverted suspended triangular hanging ceiling pendant light designed by Swiss born architect and designer Mario Botta for Italian lighting company Artemide. A classic design of the era.
An interesting geometric design similar to that of a mobile with a single halogen lightbulb hidden within an off-white triangular bulbholder which is fixed to the lower section of the triangular frame. The halogen lightbulb deflects the light off the adjustable-angle black metal circular light deflector casting the light back into the room. A black corresponding triangular cover at the top of the triangle conceals the wiring and where the flex connects to the frame from the ceiling.
The light is fully functioning and has been rewired. There are some surface scratches to the black reflector and some chips to the white/ivory original paintwork specifically at the bottom of the triangle. The ceiling cup has been replaced with a black matt metal circular version. I personally feel that none of the age related wear detracts from the piece especially when it's in situ. However, it could be re-sprayed if you so wish.
About the designer: Mario Botta was born in Mendrisio, Switzerland in 1943 and is a working architect and designer in the postmodern style. Studying at the Liceo Artistico in Milan and the University of Architecture in Venice, he worked with the greats, Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn, designing houses and churches. His architecture features strong geometric forms, just like his lighting.
