A superb pair of Model 77 dining chairs designed in 1959 by Niels Otto Møller and produced by J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik during the 1960s. Crafted in richly figured Brazilian rosewood, these chairs are exemplary of Danish modern design at its most refined, combining sculptural elegance with exceptional craftsmanship.
The Model 77 is celebrated for its fluid, organic lines and masterfully executed joinery. The gently curved backrest appears to float between the rear uprights, shaped to provide both visual lightness and ergonomic support. The solid rosewood frames display beautiful grain variation and depth of tone, enhanced by the softly tapered legs and seamless transitions between each element. Every detail reflects the meticulous cabinetmaking standards for which J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik became internationally renowned.
The seats have been recently reupholstered in supple dark brown leather, tailored with precision to complement the warmth of the rosewood. The upholstery sits neatly within the frame, maintaining the chair’s slim profile while ensuring comfort for extended dining. Viewed from any angle, the silhouette remains graceful and balanced, making these chairs equally striking around a dining table or as standalone accent pieces.
Both chairs are presented in good vintage condition, with minor wear consistent with age and past use. The rosewood has developed a rich patina over time, further enhancing its character and depth. An iconic and highly sought-after design, the Model 77 remains one of Niels Otto Møller’s most enduring and collectible creations. The manufacturer's stamps are visible beneath each seat on the side of the frame.
