This Victorian armchair represents a fusion of historical design and modern street-art influence, specifically featuring the Graffiti All Over Velvet fabric by the renowned Glasgow-based studio, Timorous Beasties.
The chair’s transformation was executed by an artisan trained by Stephen Moody, whose "upholstery is Art"philosophy treats furniture restoration as a creative adventure. Moody’s approach emphasises "furniture alchemy," where discarded or period pieces are given new life through a blend of traditional 19th-century techniques and 21st-century imaginative finishes. By utilizing high-end digital printing technologies on classic materials like cotton velvet, the redesign achieves a striking contrast that respects the age of the hardwood frame while providing a contemporary "wow factor". The absence of staples and the use of original brass castors further underscore the commitment to high-standard, professional craftsmanship in this one-off functional art piece.
